"Although I didn't originally like the character Skull, after reading the book and getting inside his head, I liked him a lot more. If you like Lee Childs' character "Jack Reacher," you will like Skull's Shadows." - Patricia L.

Can Skull win through while keeping his soul, showing mercy only to children, dogs and the genuinely innocent?

Skull Shadows Plague Wars Series Book 2 eBook David VanDyke Ryan King

To start, I did receive a free copy of this book in return for an honest review, and quite frankly, that was the icing on the cake for me, as David van Dyke has quickly become one of my favorite new authors, due to his series "Plague Wars". I generally do not care to read books in a series, as so many authors will end any installment with a cliffhanger that forces the reader to continue with the series; I, for one, refuse to be coerced into reading anything! Van Dyke, however, makes each novel in the "Plague Wars" a stand-alone story, focusing on a single character (usually introduced as a minor player in a different novel), that feeds into the overall epic. This means that the novels don't have to be read in a particular sequence! YIPPEE! Add this to the fact that "Plague Wars" is a compelling story, told by a crackerjack writer. I get a lot of free books, buy David van Dyke is one of the few authors that I will actually buy. A word of warning: don't get too attached to any character, as van Dyke can be quite merciless. Action and adventure galore in this novel, although 'Skull' is a very dark character, pragmatic to the brink of amorality.

Skull Shadows Plague Wars Series Book 2 eBook David VanDyke Ryan King Reviews

Love the series and enjoyed the deeper look into one of the quieter members of the "rebellion". He is a good guy, he's just written badly, he has a heart and a reason for doing what he's doing, he just prefers to hide it and to work alone. Typical brooding character who just "wants to be alone". Despite what he thinks of everything that is going on he will always fight for what's right, and in the long run what more could you ask for.
I really like the plague wars series. The characters are well developed but you never know when to expect one to get eliminated. The story flows well and is very realistic I can almost imagine something like this happening that's how good the story's are. Skull as a character has quite a bit of depth and gains more all the time. Sometimes the writing does seem simplistic but in this kind of series I personally am not looking for a big reading challenge just some entertainment.
This is another excellent book in an amazing series. Unfortunately, the reaction of those in power, when their power is threatened, is likely more truth then fiction. We can look at a partial set from the freedoms the government took away in the US after 9/11 and the Patriot act. The government actions in this book could be all too real.
I highly recommend starting with book zero, which would make this the 3rd book.
Skull doesn't want a virus that would let him live hundreds of years or heal any injuries or imperfections. He is on a mission and is afraid that the virus will interrupt his wanting to kill those responsible for the death of both his girlfriend and his best friend.

Looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Eden' s Exodus.
I am probably the last person you would think likes a military fighting book. Some how I was drawn in by the medical testing and healing capability that was going on out on an Island. Then I found the free 0 book and that was it! I was hooked. The book is constantly moving and full of action. This book follows one of the main characters as he divided from the main group. He assigns himself a task and he sets himself out even though the outlook has poor odds. He has to rid the people with the plague from
anilation by their very own government.
Although I did not originally like the character Skull, after reading the book and getting inside his head, I liked him a lot more. If you like Lee Childs character "Jack Reacher", you will like "Skull's Shadow". Of course the story line is totally different but the characters are similar. Overall, I LOVE the Plague Wars Series. This series is one that I just want to read and read. Work gets in the way!
This is a great adventure series. I have finished three now, and will gladly keep going for the rest. The author must have been in the military, probably in the marines or the seals or rangers. He surely knows what he is writing about. It so happens that I have traveled many of the same roads and terrain, so I can appreciate the descriptions. When I have traveled the interstates enough to get tired of then, I take to the back roads and really see the real America.
